The Dreamcatcher & its Story

This white and gold dreamcatcher was by Osage, one of ourpremier artists on CSD. One of the last of his creations, this beautiful workof art shows his talent in balancing color and form with traditional nativecrafts. We will miss you my friend.
Dreamcatchers aretraditionally made with webbing (thread or sinew). Some are decorated like thisone, others are left plain and both styles are beautiful. Each dreamcatcher hasa hole in the center and is usually adorned with feathers on the outer ring ofthe hoop.
The story goes like this; Dreams are like spirits that can only exist in the Night and are lookingfor a home. Some are good, some are bad. The webbing of the dreamcatcher holdsthose dreams that are bad, allowing them to slip down to the feathers wherethey are dispelled by the morning light. The hole in the webbing allows thosegood dreams to safely pass through to one sleeping.
As is true with alltraditionally made items, each bead is a prayer during the crafting of the itemit is smudged with sage. It is smudged again once it is finally created.
